Lesson 3 - Congruent ShapesTo encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Congruent Shapes, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs. GoalIdentify and construct congruent shapes. Builds UponStudent Book pages 186-187
Instructions for UseGeoboard allows students to create congruent shapes. To use Geoboard, select a circle by holding the mouse button down, and drag it to any location on the gird. Release the circle to anchor it. A red node appears at the top of the circle. Click on any part of the circle and drag it in any direction. It will stretch much like a rubber band. Secure the band to any points on the grid. You can make many geometrical shapes. Click on the circle again to add as many bands as you like. To color the area in the shape, click first on the shape and then on the color buttons to the right. To release a node, hold the Ctrl key down and click on the node. Click on the 'Delete Node' button to delete each node. Click on the 'Delete band' button to delete each rubber band. Click on the 'Clear' button to start the exercise over again.
Congruent Triangles helps students identify congruent shapes. To use Congruent Triangles , input all the names of the triangles and congruent shapes in the text fields provided. Click the 'Check Answer' button for your results.
Building Congruent Figures prompts students to identify and construct congruent shapes. To use Building Congruent Figures, click on a picture at the bottom of the applet and it will appear in the workspace. To move a piece, click on the piece and drag it to the desired location. To rotate a piece, select it and position the cursor over the shape until a black dot appears at the vertex. Click on the black dot and drag it to rotate. To colour a selected piece, click on a coloured button on the right. To flip the piece, select it, and click on the 'flip' button. To group the pieces, click above the pieces you want to group, hold the mouse button down, and drag a box around the pieces. Click on the 'clear' button to clear the space. Practice making congruent shapes by grouping two or more figures together to form a shape, and then make an identical shape beside theoriginal.
Congruent Shapes is an interactive game students can play to practice division skills. To use Congruent Shapes , click on the level of difficulty and then the 'Start' button. Determine if the shapes need to be turned or flipped. Drag the pieces onto the glass window to put them in the correct placesbefore the time runs out. To begin again, click the 'Restart' button. |
